SHORT COURSE - MARY (MARYUM - MOTHER OF ISA (JESUS)) IN THE QURAN Delivered by Ustadha Selina [Beacon Institute]* Date: Tuesday 15th December 2009 Time: 6pm - 9pm Venue: Idea Store Canary Wharf, Churchill Place, Canary Wharf, London E14 5RB
As we start to break off for the Christmas holidays, it is an excellent time to reflect on the story of Maryum (AS), mother of Isa (Jesus (as)) . The Quran is one of the few religious texts that not only contain stories of women but also a whole chapter dedicated to women - Sura An-Nisa. The Quran informs us of her piety and nobility. Maryum (AS) was chosen by Allah (SWT) to show the Mankind her miraculous pregnancy and the miraculous birth of Isa (AS) without a father. And thus Allah (swt) says: “Verily the likeness of Isa (Jesus) before Allah is the likeness of Adam. He created him from dust, then (He) said to him: “Be!”- and he was”. (Al-Quran: 59:3) Can women of our time be pious like Maryum (AS) and her mother? Can Dua (supplication) provide pious spouse and children? Can professional women become wives, mothers and pious women while working?
